Among the many sins to be laid at the door of George W. Bush — one I’m sure he gave absolutely no thought to whatsoever — was the de facto disenfranchisement in 2006 of thousands of Rhode Island voters who very much wanted to reelect Senator Chafee, but just could not do it. I wonder if people around the country truly realized the sacrifice voters here were making in order to take senate control away from the Republicans. Following the loss, Chafee was apparently plagued with people flagging him down. . . apologizing and explaining, pleading for a second chance. Happily we had a new opening here at home and the qualities that made him a good senator will serve him well as our new governor.
Noon Tuesday (live on Channel 10) — According to the Providence Journal, today’s swearing-in takes place on the south portico at the State House. Mollis swears in Chafee and Roberts; then Chafee swears in Mollis, Raimondo and Kilmartin. After this ceremonial hokey pokey they all head inside for a receiving line, public invited.
5pm — Special WaterFire lighting at Waterplace Park.
6:45pm — Torchlight procession from State House to Waterplace Park. And instead of a big ball there are just assorted receptions starting at 7:30pm that are also free and open to the public. No public funds are being used, and the corporate sponsorship has been paid directly to WaterFire Providence to avoid the appearance of . . .you know. (ProJo)
actually i had never been there before or read it. i am sure you could use google to find many many more people who wish you would leave them to live a peaceful, happy life with their loved one.
Interesting link Joe. Now I know where you get all this BS from.
Also, if you think i am a good writer, this website goes into much more detail into our discussion, providing much more Biblical evidence that I could on why your entire approach is offensive to non-believers. This person is obviously very well educated about the Bible.

God is good. You are not.
Do not EVER associate me or any legitimate religion with fred phelps and his gang. Theirs is a false Christianity and they are as hostile to the Catholic Church as they are to anybody else.
I have noticed that you reply to my short, concise, to the point comments with long diatribes that go off on tangents that have no relation to my original thoughts. You are a very talented writer, but it’s all just a show.
May God have mercy on you for your comments on Him.
Just what the world needs, a self-appointed savior of a community you are not a part of or even welcome in due to your opinion of them.
not gay rob, there is another way to interpret your ‘mission’ to lead others to repentance – ‘sure, what you do with your life is actually none of my business but hey, as I try to impose my will on all you consenting American adult citizens, just remember I am doing this to save you – not that you asked to be saved, not that you share the same religion as me, not that you share the same outwardly sexual preference as me, sure you may pay your taxes just like me and you are a law abiding citizen, but i think it’s in your best interest to have someone like me come into your life uninvited, tell you over and over that the love you share with your partner, who you support with all your heart is an abomination.’
How about you let the homosexuals deal with their God when their time comes and you spend your time trying to make straight marriage more fulfilling or maybe contribute something positive to the world instead of intolerance at the expense of others.
Here is the major point you cannot comprehend – not being worthy of Rob’s God is a compliment to the gay community. Your God is intolerant, illogical, misinformed, hypocritical, and hostile. i hear fred phelps and his gang may be hiring some sign painters.
and again, with all the sinners out there, you just happen to be really fixated on the gay community. this is no coincidence.
Jesus didn’t “tolerate” sin, He condemned it. He preached repentance and forgiveness, but nowhere in the Gospels does He tell people to stay in the state of sin. In fact, some of the harshest language in the Bible is what Jesus has to say to those who would lead others into sin. That is why we try to lead others to repentance.
If the teachings of Jesus were actually practiced by his followers, people who are against gay marriage wouldn’t get married to someone of the same sex and that would be the end of it. Instead, misinformed and intolerant “Christians” like ‘not gay’ rob can’t help themselves and exercise their undeniable desire to position themselves as self appointed traffic cops between the love of two homosexual consenting adults. Since they cannot accept their forbidden physical desires, rob and others who are way too overtly concerned with the homosexual community and lifestyle, (like say, going way out of your way every day to troll websites that promote equality within the local Providence arts (ie gay) community) are crying out for the homosexual community to acknowledge their existence in the only way that their brains will allow – negatively. It’s a desperate cry for attention from those you claim to be against.
Of course, there is also the question of what type of psychological ailment people like this may be suffering from if they feel it is their personal mission to bring unhappiness and prejudice into the lives of people they do not even know or interact with. I bet once properly diagnosed it ends with -path at the end of it.
If you are straight, have a straight marriage. If you are gay, have a gay marriage.
rob, when the gay marriage hostility bug gets you, just repeat ‘tolerance and acceptance’ over and over again in your mind, just as Jesus would.
Mangeek, we didn’t vote on same-sex marriage. Some polls may suggest that Rhode Islanders support it, but that is not the same as a vote. If you really believe that the state would support it, why not put it to a vote?
It was exaggeration for effect. . . or a metaphor. Or an exciting new fragrance from Calvin Klein — Disenfranchisement! Anyway, like many people I absolutely could not bring myself to vote for the candidate I really really wanted to vote for, and for reasons that had nothing to do with either candidate or anything to do with the needs of my state.
Yeah, can someone clarify the disenfranchisement aspect?
And Rob, the voters voted… Most Rhode Islanders support gay marriage of some sort. Carcieri took a hard right turn towards the end of his career where he wasn’t even being reasonable in this department, and it turned a lot of folks off of the Republican party here.
What, exactly, does “de facto disenfranchisement” mean in this case? That he lost? Because I’m not aware of a fundamental right for your preferred candidate to win.
2011, the year rob gets gay stuff rammed down his throat.
Chafee used his inaugural to state his agenda and plan. Does he really think rescinding E-verify and ramming so-called gay marriage down our throats is going to solve our financial crisis? May God help the state of Rhode Island.
There are too many cases of actual voter intimidation and disenfranchisement to call people being unable to vote for Chafee disenfranchised. Chafee was a member of an evil Republican cabal — he used their party machinery to get himself elected and only voted against their agenda when it benefited him and cost his party nothing. He paid a reasonable price for his political loyalties. That’s not disenfranchisement — that’s people wisely wielding their votes in a two-party political system.
