This is the 21st year for the Southside Community Land Trust Children’s Garden program. Every week summer youth programs and schools bring in groups of 15-30 students to be immersed in an enriching garden curriculum. These groups are given a special plot of land at City Farm and are taught lessons by the Children’s Garden Coordinator on growing food from seed to fruit, maintaining healthy soil, composting, pest management and beneficial insects. The kids get to create delicious recipes and snacks with the very same foods they grew themselves.
City Fest guests will have a chance to enjoy some of these tasty snacks which will feature foods the kids grew and harvested. Guests will also get to hear from the kids about what they have learned from their time in the garden. There will be a variety of crafts, music, and games for kids and adults alike.
