So the whole Joey DeFrancesco “I Quit” video (scroll down) with the What Cheer? Brigade has really really blown up. Check out this fairly extensive interview from Access Hollywood of all things. Host Billy Bush reads the official Renaissance Hotel response and Joey describes the working conditions that prompted his glorious leave-taking. Watch to the end to see the What Cheer? Brigade help Joey “quit” the interview. It would seem they all got a trip to New York out of this. According to HuffPo,
DeFrancesco partly attributes the response to the video to the dismal state of the economy. He believes that bosses of all kinds have been using the downturn as an excuse to expect more out of workers for less.
Those who are lucky enough to actually have jobs, he says, “are getting shit on so much, because people are using the recession to slash everything.” The video exploded because “people have this fantasy of [quitting] like that.”
DeFrancesco has already landed safely at another gig. Though he won’t disclose where he’s working, he says it’s a job that lets him use his degree in history, which he earned from Rhode Island College while working at the hotel.
Let’s face it, this young man’s appearance does not work against him and if it helps him get his message of workers’ rights out there then why not. He is clearly a force for good in the world.
