But This Is Wondrous Strange

HamletThat’s from Hamlet. Everything’s from Hamlet. Still plenty of time to catch the latest production at the Gamm Theatre with artistic director Tony Estrella in the title role. From Rhode Island Monthly,

He is spellbinding as Hamlet, displaying what appears to be real sweat and tears as his character spirals out of control. You can feel his hatred toward Claudius and disappointment toward his mother radiate as he paces about the stage, clenching his fists and pounding his feet. He puts so much oomph into the impersonation, he must collapse in exhaustion after the final bow.

Shown here the famous necklace scene. Hamlet’s mother Gertrude, played by Jeanine Kane, hopes her son has kept the receipt. Photo by Peter Greenberg.

Through December 11, Gamm Theatre, 172 Exchange Street, Pawtucket, 723. 4266, Rated S for Stabby
