You have until the end of the day (5pm, maybe 5:30pm) Friday, December 23 to say your goodbyes to Joe Siravo, a most excellent greengrocer and neighbor. After 32 years of early mornings and long (semi-refrigerated) days on his feet, Joe will be closing this much-beloved Cole Avenue institution. He has posted an affectionate letter to his customers in the store (pics after the jump).
Joe was always up on the latest fruits and vegetables — wised me up to yellow cherry tomatoes — as well as local news and world events. In the winter we analyzed the Patriots, and in the summer the Sox were usually on so you didn’t have to miss a single pitch.
Joe, you have been a good friend to the whole neighborhood. Good luck and get warm!
