Daylight saving was first conceived by Benjamin Franklin as a way to make better use of daylight and economize on oil and candles. But shouldn’t some consideration be given to the happiness people derive from staying up late and how much better most people look under dim artificial lighting? It seems odd that it was Benjamin Franklin of all people — probably the least party-poopy of the founding fathers — laying all that “early to bed, early to rise” stuff on everyone.
