The Wilbury Group announces the world premiere of “Destefano on the Air!” a brand new radio play by Providence playwright Cyrus Leddy, directed by Robert Casey Jr. in the performance space at 95 Empire Street (the performance space formerly known as Perishable Theater) April 12 to 22.
Featuring playwright Cyrus Leddy (resident sound designer with The Wilbury Group and curator behind Providence’s ever popular late-night radio series Breathing Tube) in his first starring role, the team behind Destefano on the Air! includes Providence theatre favorites Joe Ouellette, Clare Blackmer, and Brien Lang, as well as Wilbury Group newcomers Mark Gray (Oedipus Rex at Poorman Productions) and Kerry Callery (Festen at The Sandra Feinstein-Gamm Theatre), making for one of our most hilarious collaborations to date. Under the direction of Robert Casey Jr. (Exit the King, We Won’t Pay! We Won’t Pay!), Destefano on the Air! pushes the boundaries of the traditional radio play from the foley artists’ opening to the final curtain.
“Cyrus Leddy’s work as a playwright and as the driving force behind the Breathing Tube series has been challenging Providence audiences for years with how exciting and engaging his own warped brand of great radio theatre can be,” says Wilbury Group Producer Josh Short, “we’re thrilled to be able to finally give this work the exposure that a play as innovative and hilarious as Destefano on the Air! deserves.”
