257 Thayer Apartment Building — Discussion/Presentation

floor plan

Two opportunities coming up next week to learn about the proposed Gilbane apartment building/student housing on Thayer Street. The College Hill Neighborhood Association has announced the following;

7pm, Monday, April 9th, Hope High School — PLANNING DEPARTMENT DISCUSSION ON GILBANE PROJECT

Join Councilman Sam Zurier for a panel discussion will that will include Robert Azar of the Planning Department, James Hall of the Providence Preservation Society (PPS), Mike McCormick of Brown University, and Ed Bishop. By April 9th, the Planning Department will have received an initial application, and Mr. Azar will share his office’s perspective.

7pm, Tuesday, April 10th, Lippitt House Museum, 199 Hope Street (corner of Angell) — GILBANE PROJECT PRESENTED BY ROBERT GILBANE

The presentation by Robert Gilbane will be followed by a Q & A session.  Once all questions from the floor have been answer, the format will then open to public discussion.  We encourage participation from both supporters of the project as well as those who find issues with the proposal.

Go to the CHNA website to download the Gilbane Presentation. Some advantages of the project are listed on page 6; it is hoped for instance that the project will “Enhance retail vibrancy of Thayer Street.” Hardly seems possible.
