WBNA Block Party 2012 — June 30, Harrison Street

miss wensdayCome out for the West Broadway Neighborhood Association‘s third annual neighborhood Block Party!

The beautiful and talented Miss Wensday will emcee the event this year. Mingle with old friends and neighbors, make new friends and meet new neighbors, or come on over to visit the neighborhood and see why so many people think the WestSide is the Best Side! Think of it as a sort of “Open House,” but for a whole neighborhood. This Block Party is like a colorful gypsy caravan, moving around the WestSide, getting kicked out one place and moving on to the next . . . and this year it is setting up camp on beautiful Harrison Street!

Wanna dance? Enjoy live music from two stages (rock & roll, hip hop, acoustic) from these great local artists: Northern Lands, The Silks, Mark Cutler, Milo & Otis, The Mighty Good Boys,  Jon Hope & DJ Knockout, Carolyn Hecht (of tig & bean), Mark McCall, Daniel Rouvrais, Extraordinary Rendition Band, and the fantastic Community MusicWorks Student String Quartet!

Wanna play nice? You can play and learn at the same time with POW! Science‘s amazing demonstration! Providence fire engine and Fire Safety truck will be on hand to interact with. You can also learn to screenprint with RiverzEdge Arts Project, who have designed a commemorative Block Party 2012 screen that they will help you screenprint onto your own shirt – purchase a shirt to screen, or use something you already own! Embellish your face with painted designs led by Kite Architects and the Providence Monthly graphics team.

Wanna play naughty? There will of course be the usual highly competitive games, such as the egg toss and the frozen tshirt contest. Don’t laugh. You’ll see. These are WestSide sports. Highly. Competitive. Also, you will have the chance to try to dunk some of your favorite WestSiders (and known associates) in the dunk tank! Special guests! A little bird told us that Kurt $hilling will be available for dunking. He will remain in the tank until all funds owed are raised.

Wanna relax? Check out Jamila Woods’ spoken word poetry from the stage! Focus your mind and breath and participate in the yoga demonstration! Bring your hot doggie over to the doggie rest stop. Decorate the streets and driveways of Harrison Street with chalk!

Wanna eat? All of your favorite Block Party fare will be offered, of course. Thanks again to volunteers from WE FEED. In addition, this year New Urban Farmers will be making elotes, or grilled corn on the cob. Ever had a fresh mango on a stick with a little lime, salt, & chili powder on top? Also present will be Fancheezical grilled cheese truck, PocoLoco taco truck, and PVD Pudding Pops. Visit the famous WBNA bake sale table for dessert!

Thirsty? Cold craft beer on draught provided by Revival Brewing Co. and Elevated Spirits and poured by your favorite E&O bartenders. Venturing over from the East Side or Barrington perhaps? Fret not, WestSiders are known to be excellent hosts and there will be plenty of wine for you. Better yet, try some of John Taraborelli’s famous (in those parts) Sangria.

Commemorative posters designed by local artist/graphic designer Casey Spencer memorializing the event.
