(9.29) The FirstWorks Festival: On the Plaza in 2012 will transform Kennedy Plaza into an outdoor performance venue and multi-stage spectacle with local, national and international performing artists Saturday starting at 4pm.
One highly anticipated act will be Bandaloop (at 7:30pm and 9:30pm, One Financial Plaza at Fulton and Exchange Streets).
Bandaloop turns gravity sideways 30-stories above Kennedy Plaza in a jaw-dropping nighttime spectacle . . . these vertical dance pioneers perform dynamic, unforgettable, elegant choreography as they fly and spin through the air, mesmerizing audiences below. Their exhilarating site-reactive performances have been staged from the cliffs of Yosemite National Park to the Seattle Space Needle. With original music composed by Dana Leong, excerpts from “Bound(less)” explore the paradox of how, when bound to each other, we are free to soar as individuals.
Also lots of music and dance: Red Baraat; Spanish Harlem Orchestra; Squonk Opera; Zili Misik; Ankor Dance Troupe; Damhsa Irish Dance; Festival Ballet; Laotian Dance Troupe; Julian Hidalgo and JJ Latin Dancers; Extraordinary Rendition Band.
Also Roller Derby, Rhode Island Kung Fu Club, and WaterFire.
