(10.8) The fifth annual Providence Honk Fest returns to the Fox Point neighborhood. This is a free, family-oriented street festival featuring brass and drum-based marching bands. The City of Providence has officially declared October 8 to be Pronk Day!
PRONK!’s motto is “Reclaim the streets with brass, beats, and feet” and this year’s theme is “This Land is Your Land” in honor of the 100th anniversary of songwriter and activist Woody Guthrie’s birth. Joining us at PRONK! are youth musicians and singers from several local schools as well as 200+ PRONK! musicians.
This volunteer-run festival plays host to musicians from around the world playing alongside local performers for an afternoon and evening of music and street dancing. The times from the press release don’t quite match the times on the poster (after the jump). Website has a schedule, we’ll go with that.
3:30pm to 5:30pm: Performances at India Point Park.
5:30pm: Parade down Wickenden to South Water Street culminating in a collective rendition of “This Land is Your Land.” Bring your instruments. Join in.
6pm to 10pm: Festival concludes on multiple stages along the river with performances by Pink Puffers from Rome, Lloyd Family Players from California, Environmental Encroachment from Chicago, Lungs Face Feet from Pittsburgh, and others.
