Sculptor To Lecture At Granoff

(detail) circle dance (12.5) Conceptual artist Tom Friedman will give a lecture Wednesday to celebrate the installation of his sculpture ‘Circle Dance’ on the walkway between Angell and Waterman Streets. We should be grateful that he chose metal for this particular piece; the Daily Beast had this to say about the early work of this unconventional artist,

A decade ago, Friedman established himself as one of the liveliest figures in American art. There was the flea-size speck of his own feces, on view in a show that toured to the New Museum in New York in 2001. “I wanted to find a material that you could present the smallest amount of and it would have the most impact,” he once said . . .

These figures sort of look like they’ve just stepped in a speck of something. (I did not take art appreciation in college.) ‘Circle Dance’ is an anonymous gift to Brown University.

5:30pm lecture, reception to follow, Wednesday, December 5, Granoff Center, 154 Angell Street
