Tech Talk — AS220 Labs And Girl Power

Arduino Uno The AS220 Labs has a set of workshops coming up for those wanting to “Learn how to use an Arduino” including: intro to soldering; build a Physical Pixel or Ambient Orb project; and Robots! Other upcoming lab courses feature 3D Modeling, Intro to the Laser Cutter, Intro to Letterpress, and more.

And speaking of robots, last month “The Rhody Girls,” four seniors at the Providence Career And Technical Academy, beat out 30 other teams to compete in the FIRST Tech Challenge World Championship in St. Louis. (FIRST is an acronym — Dean Kamen and MIT Professor Woodie Flowers started the competition in 1992.)

Dean Kamen is an inventor, entrepreneur, and tireless advocate for science and technology. His passion and determination to help young people discover the excitement and rewards of science and technology are the cornerstones of FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology).

The competition runs April 24 through April 27 and the team is raising money for the trip. Go to today’s ProJo for the story and how you can contribute . . . and to see a happy-making photo.
