Memorial Day was originally called Decoration Day and was celebrated in response to the unprecedented carnage of America’s Civil War in the early 1860s. Some 620,000 Union and Confederate soldiers lost their lives during that war.

Among those casualties was Sullivan Ballou now famous for his moving and poetic letter to his wife Sarah featured in the Ken Burns documentary “The Civil War.” Ballou died at lowest price for brand cialis the the Battle of Bull Run. Sarah never remarried and died in 1917 at the age of 80. They are buried together at Swan Point Cemetery.
