Urban Greens Food Co-op Celebrates

greens (6.6) The Urban Greens Food Co-op is throwing a picnic with music to celebrate reaching 500 founding member-owners.

Rhode Islanders devoted to opening a co-op grocery store in the West side of Providence reached a major milestone this month. Urban Greens co-op has surpassed its goal of 500 member-owners who have pledged their time and money to making the store a reality. The 500 member-owner threshold, and the equity and community support that it represents, allows the co-op to move forward with the full financing of the project.

The event will feature a performance by Sidy Maiga, a renowned West African Djembe drummer and members of his band. Maiga is the recipient of a MacColl Johnson Music Fellowship and the RI State Council on the Arts Folk Arts Fellowship.

There will also be a seed planting activity for children, where families can learn about growing seeds. They will be able take home their plantings. Bring

blanket, beach chairs, snacks etc.

Picnic, 4pm to 7pm, Thursday, June 6, Armory Park along parade Street, next to weekly Armory Farmers Market
