DJ Jonathan Toubin’s Soul Clap & Dance-Off comes to Providence’s Machines With Magnets October 12. With Toubin will be guest selector Ty Jesso (Soul Power), who will also kick things off with a 9:30 P.M. performance. Judges for the dance contest portion of the evening will include Gloria Gardenburger, Mike Sears (Justine’s, Lili Marlene’s), Diego Perez (Flan y Ajo, Bodega Malasana), Rebecca Mitchell (Whorepaint), Lizzy Colley (Shop Bananas), Bert Crenca of AS220 and more.
Time Out New York has called the Soul Clap & Dance-Off “the mother of all soul jams” and Flavorpill has named it “New York’s best soul party.” The Soul Clap & Dance-Off is an entire night of dancing to Toubin’s blend of original obscure 1960s soul 45s, with a short dance contest in the middle.
