Closing pitcher Koji Uehara has been named MVP for his performance in the ALCS; his one win, three saves, eight strikeouts, and zero walks were key in getting the Red Sox to this year’s World Series. Koji admitted to some nerves (Red Sox).
Asked whether he could feel the pressure of the moment, the closer added with a laugh, “To tell you the truth, I almost threw up.”
Uehara was also dominant in the regular season, posting a 1.09 ERA with 21 saves to go along with an 11/22 strikeout-to-walk ratio. And he was always so ridiculously enthusiastic!
Fun fact: The word KOJI is an acceptable Scrabble word, defined in The Official Scrabble Players Dictionary as “a fungus used to start fermentation.”
