Of all the vote-for-me television spots so far, this one wins hands down. It’s fresh and modern and no maudlin backstory with the obligatory (hard-working/ill/widowed) (single parent/grandma/immigrant) and not boring and thank you. Compare and contrast: Raimondo’s sentimental pandering and Taveras’s formulaic bio. Yawn.
I’m going to take this opportunity to thank the various candidates who have been showing their support for the Tax and Regulate marijuana legislation.
Regulate Rhode Island held a forum Thursday at the Rochambeau Library at which mayoral candidates Democrat Brett Smiley and Republican Dr. Dan Harrop both expressed their support for legalizing marijuana for adult recreational use. Both these gentlemen have also shown up for us at the State House as well. Democrat Lorne Adrain has also supported us at the State House. Also, Chris Wall, democratic candidate for State Senate District 3, spoke in support on Thursday evening as well.
As always, a big shout-out to Senator Josh Miller and Rep. Edith Ajello, the indefatigable sponsors of marijuana reform legislation over the last four years.
The Providence Phoenix has a helpful cover story this week introducing the mayoral candidates — “Who Are These Guys?”
