PCL And Smith Hill Library Celebrate Thursday

The Providence Community Library is celebrating its first 5 years, as well as the recent renovations to the Smith Hill Library, with a neighborhood party. The event will feature a special reveal of renovations to the 1932 library building. Refreshments include Food for the Soul, Nathan’s Hot Dogs, Providence Fire Department, and the Chad Brown Alumni Association as well as dance performances, music, face painting, and hula hoops.

Renovations to the Smith Hill building, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, include new windows and roof, repair of the brick walls and a fire alarm system. Additionally, the library was made Americans With Disabilities Act(ADA) compliant with an elevator and restroom, all courtesy of $825,000 in generous grant funding from the Champlin Foundations.

A new front entrance, interior painting and raising the floor of the community room to allow handicap accessibility to the entire lower floor of the building were all funded with a CDBG grant from the City of Providence.

5pm to 8pm, Thursday, August 21, Smith Hill Library, 31 Candace Street
