‘The Professional’ At MotB

(8.21) Tonight at Movies on the Block, the 1994 crime thriller “The Professional” directed by Luc Besson. The NYT reviewer describes the hero thusly,

He lives a quiet life, drinking milk and dusting his plant’s leaves. (“It’s my best friend,” he says about the plant, thus helping more obtuse members of the audience. “Always happy. No questions. It’s like me, you see.”) He is also seen watching a Gene Kelly movie, which fills him with an innocent delight. How strange it is that he happens to be a paid killer!

Running time 110 minutes. Rated R due to graphic violence, but it’s the sophisticated, stylish kind of violence that we all laugh at so it’s okay apparently.

Free, dusk, Thursday, August 21, Grant’s Block, Westminster Street at Union
