Oh for an all-cartilage skeleton. Life would be so easy. Tonight on PBS will be airing the URI documentary “Sharks: The Demon Fish?” I suspect their bad reputation will be somewhat rehabilitated by the end.
The program, “Sharks: The Demon Fish?” examines how URI faculty and alumni are conducting wide-ranging research to develop a better understanding of sharks, one based on science rather than fiction. It explores a variety of human experiences with these misunderstood creatures, from curious tourists visiting the Florida Aquarium to dedicated shark scientists working in the waters off Cape Cod. Viewers will encounter a number of shark species, from the diminutive bamboo shark to the notorious great white.
More at ProJo. Don’t forget Ocearch where you can track some of the great whites tagged last year off of Cape Cod; they aren’t coming back north for some reason. Too touristy? I don’t have a picture of a shark, just the shark-filled waters off of Beaver Tail.
Initial broadcast, 8:30pm, Thursday, August 28, PBS Channel 36, (rebroadcasts)
