(11.24) The Native Americans at Brown student group presents a screening of Disney’s Pocahontas in honor of Native American Heritage Month. This 1995 animated children’s film chronicles Pocahontas’ fictionalized encounter with British settlers. Running time 81 minutes.
A panel discussion focusing on the historical inaccuracies of the film will follow the screening. Panelists will discuss how the image of Native Americans in the media have been altered and how it affects modern interpretations of history. Co-sponsored by the Native American Heritage Series.
