Dear Diorama At City Hall

You have through the end of the month to check out Dear Diorama II —  Not About the Buildings in collaboration with Providence Community Library — now on display on the third floor of Providence City Hall.

See award winning dioramas based on Markus Zusak’s The Book Thief and Roald Dahl’s Danny, Champion of the World, as well as shoebox book reports representing works by William Shakespeare, Sue Grafton, John Steinbeck and Gertrude Stein. The Phantom Tollbooth, Charlotte’s Web, and A Wrinkle In Time are all there, too. So are The Secret Life of Bees and Neuromancer.

Sadly, Matthew Lawrence has announced that this will be the last year for Not About the Buildings — it’s been nine years. (NATB is Matthew Lawrence the same way that NIN is Trent Reznor, and I’m pretty sure that that is the first time Matthew has been compared to Trent Reznor.) Other much-beloved events like his micro-memoir writing and the marathon read are still on the schedule . . . stay tuned. And don’t worry, Mr. Lawrence promises to host one final Spelling Bee. That is going to be one helluva bee.

Seen here: The Little Prince by Beatriz Lopez, right before the prince makes his escape from his home planet.

Dear Diorama II, through March 31st, Providence City Hall, 25 Dorrance Street
