Tuvan Throat Singer At RISD/Athenaeum

(3.29) Duuuuude. ‘Four contemplations’ will run from Thursday, March 26 thru Sunday, March 29. Community MusicWorks has commissioned Tuvan throat singer/composer Ken Ueno to create a site-specific work for the Community MusicWorks Players at the RISD Museum to coincide with the re-dedication of the ten-foot Dainichi Buddha housed there. Encompassing three live performances by Ueno and Community MusicWorks Players and a sound installation in the museum, the project will engage diverse urban communities in contemporary music and ancient Asian art.

Thursday, 5:30pm to 8:30pm — Timed ticketed event in RISD Buddha Gallery (free with museum admission/reserve gallery time here)

Friday, 5pm to 7pm — Providence Athenaeum Salon, 251 Benefit Street

Community MusicWorks musicians Laura Cetilia, Jesse Holstein, Sebastian Ruth, and Clara Yang, and Tuvan throat singer/composer Ken Ueno on their research-in-progress into contemplation and its relationship to music.

Saturday, 4pm — CMW players and students with Ken Ueno, All Saints Memorial Church, 674 Westminster Street

Sunday, 2pm to 3:30pm — Performance at RISD Metcalf Auditorium, free and open to the public, reservations required
