‘Wrecking Crew’ At Cable Car

I can not wait for this one. The Wrecking Crew was a group of studio musicians in Los Angeles in the 60s who played on hits for the Beach Boys, Frank Sinatra, Nancy Sinatra, Sonny and Cher, Jan and Dean, the Monkees, Gary Lewis and the Playboys, Mamas and Papas, Tijuana Brass, Ricky Nelson, and Johnny Rivers. They were Phil Spector’s ‘Wall of Sound.’ The amount of work that they were involved in was tremendous.

Film critic Kenneth Turan noted on NPR, “Perhaps the most intriguing member of the Wrecking Crew was its only woman — expert bassist Carol Kaye, who demonstrates how she souped up the bass line for Sonny and Cher’s “‘The Beat Goes On.'”  It would appear that everything I liked about that song was her.

‘The Wrecking Crew’ starts Friday, April 3, Cable Car Cinema, 204 South Main Street
