Full WaterFire

(5.23) First this PSA: If you don’t absolutely have to drive around the Brown University area today then stay away. This weekend is Brown commencement with related activities all day. Add to that all the lost and frustrated out-of-towners driving rental trucks for the first time, or loading up awkwardly parked cars, and it’s well worth the effort to find alternate routes.

Having said that, this is widely regarded as the primo picking weekend of the year for the same reason. You can not believe what gets left on the curb by departing students — one’s gorge may, on occasion, rise — still, grab it.

Tonight’s 80-brazier WaterFire is sponsored by Brown University’s as part of that 250th anniversary thing.

Gendo Taiko drummers will help drive out evil spirits during the lighting ceremony in the Waterplace Park Basin. Gendo Taiko which means “Path to Inspiration” was formed in 2004 by two Brown University Students.

Look for the gargoyles, Del’s lemonade, fire dancers, origami, and tonight’s music program runs the gamut from Eric Satie to Bill Monroe. (Nothing from alums Low Anthem? OK Go? Lisa Loeb?)

Ignition 8:26pm, Saturday, May 23, WaterFire, Waterplace Park to Memorial Park
