(7.27) Let’s not forget that this battle has two fronts. Today’s focus will be the decision-makers in Providence City Hall. The ‘Providence Campaign Against the Stadium Deal’ will meet today at 7pm at the Rochambeau Library. From organizer Sam Bell,
We have the momentum behind us! The good news keeps rolling in for the campaign to stop the stadium deal. Most recently, Senate President Teresa Paiva-Weed, who has the power to stop this deal, has said she won’t bring the deal up in a special session. This is a big win. The politicians are feeling the pressure.
But we have work to do to. The Providence city government, including the Mayor, has yet to come out against taxpayer money for the stadium or building it on the land that’s designated a public park. And we still need to get a majority of the House of Representatives on record against the deal.
“Come hear plans for filing our voter initiative—we’re already well over the 1,000 signatures we need—and for getting our leaders on board. Learn how you can help stop this deal!”
