Local Woman Wins Emmy

Well this is very cool. Viola Davis, star of “How to Get Away with Murder,” will be going home with a statue as well. And home is Rhode Island . . .  she said so in this Providence Journal interview.

Davis, who still has family living in Rhode Island, said she hasn’t been back in about 18 months. (Her mother visits her in California instead.) “But I always call Rhode Island home,” she said. “There’s always one place you call home, and for me, that’s Rhode Island.”

After graduating from Central Falls High School, Davis majored in theater at Rhode Island College, graduating in 1988.

Most importantly Viola Davis is the first black woman to win the best actress Emmy.
