A Resurgence Of What

Mayor Elorza announced today that “Providence is turning an important corner. Everywhere you look, there are encouraging signs.” We are evidently to call this phenomenon the “Providence resurgence.” (Please, no new logos, slogans, or ad campaigns. Just leave the surging to us.) One item discussed in the press release is ethics.

Upon taking office, I impaneled the city’s Ethics Commission for the first time ever, and instituted mandatory ethics training for all city employees. We are sending a clear message that corruption will not be tolerated and there is no place for those who abuse the public trust.

Then please tell me Mayor Elorza, why was it that the remains of a twice-convicted felon could recently be found lying in state outside the very office he dishonored for so many years? Message received, loud and clear.
