Long a fixture on Angell Street — and more recently around the back and down the stairs — Stereo Discount will soon be moving (March 1st) into new digs at 279 Taunton Avenue in East Providence. That’s just over the river. Still, I don’t like change.
Owner Stuart Powers seems happy enough about the move — more room, more parking — but he has a hell of a lot of equipment to deal with between now and then. The current store is floor-to-ceiling with components — turntables, speakers, amps, and . . . drums?
These vivid drum kits are not, strictly speaking, for sale, but having them around makes Powers happy. Powers is himself a drummer currently playing with Pom Pom, a “Providence rock and roll band that puts the Pom in pompous ass,” and in punk/rock trio Doctor Baby with daughter Ivy.
