(3.13) Don’t forget to reset your clocks forward one hour tonight. Daylight saving time begins Sunday, March 13, at 2am.
In related news, Rhode Island state rep Blake Filippi wants to put an end to all this switching back and forth and commit to Atlantic Standard Time (thereby bringing us into sync with Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, among other places). The easternmost provinces of Canada are in the AST zone, but also deploy daylight saving time, because . . . I don’t know why. I guess Halifax is truly the town that never sleeps. Bill Rappleye reports,
“I think we all hate it when the sun sets at 4:17 p.m. in December. That’s only 27 minutes later than Anchorage, Alaska,” said state Rep. Blake Filippi, an independent from Block Island.
. . . The bill would only take effect if Massachusetts went to Atlantic Standard Time. Filippi said New Hampshire and Vermont are considering the same thing. Maine also previously considered the idea.
We would effectively be seceding from the Eastern Time Zone. Sounds kind of drastic . . . revolutionary even.
