PVDFest Starts — Music, Food, Dance, Art

Friday and Saturday are the big days but PVDFest spans four days when live music, dance, food, and visual art installations will take over our public spaces, parks, and outdoor stages in the heart of Providence. Local artists and musicians will be joined by artists from across the globe for this free outdoor party. Seen here is Close-Act Theatre.

The biggest beasts that ever walked the earth stomp their way through Downtown Providence as this multi-disciplinary street theater company from the Netherlands makes its East Coast debut with Saurus.

The Fest starts with an opening party at the Providence G on Thursday, but things kick into high gear Friday. Complete schedule here. What follows are some random highlights you can find amid all the block parties and art installations.

Friday — ‘White Wings and Saurus’ by Close-Act Theatre and Sidy Maiga Drum Ensemble, from 2pm on, at Kennedy Plaza (also on Saturday). At 5:30pm check out Biltmore Park for ‘Influx Art Walk’ by local public artists The Avenue Concept. At 7pm live music at the rink with VulGarrity, Ra Ra Riot, and the Heavy.

Saturday —  AS220 owns the Washington Street Corridor with buskers and a Giant Spirograph, and live music starting at 8pm on the Coastway Community Stage with Triangle Forest, Medusah Black, Math the Band, and Way Out. Look for the Steel Yard blacksmithing people for souvenirs that are not made of plastic. At 8pm head over to the rink stage for Red Baraat. OR, Grant’s Block at 10:45pm for Arc Iris! Also food trucks all over the place, all day, and Providence Flea from noon to 6pm on Westminster.

From 6pm to 1am at the Facade next to the Arcade, the Columbus Cooperative hosts One Providence Experience. Fantastic lineup includes Death Vessel, Last Good Tooth, Black Pus, and the awesome Screaming Females.

Sunday — Things are winding down but still some live music, etc.
