‘Silence Of The Lambs’ MotB

(7.21) To paraphrase Muriel Spark — for those who like this sort of thing, this is the sort of thing they like. This week’s Movies on the Block is the 1991 crime horror “The Silence of the Lambs.” From Rolling Stone,

The brutality in Silence leaves you shaken because it’s meant to seem painful instead of playful, terrifying instead of titillating. Foster’s Clarice Starling and Smith’s Catherine Martin represent something unique in slasher movies: women who won’t play victim.

Starring Jodie Foster (Nell, The Beaver), Anthony Hopkins (International Velvet), and Brooke Smith. Rated R. Running time: 1 hour, 58 minutes.

Next week is “The Hunger Games.” Summer schedule here. (Apparently the “Superman” movie was rescheduled to accommodate tours of the Superman Building.)

8:14pm, Thursday, July 21, Grant’s Block, 260 Westminster at Union Street, (directions)
