(12.3) Spark ’em up! First, this Friday the City of Providence will be lighting its holiday tree on the steps of City Hall. (Free parking at parking meters all night Friday.)
At 5pm, a chorus of Providence City workers will line the steps of City Hall, filling the airwaves with harmonious sounds of the season before Mayor Elorza lights the City Hall Christmas Tree.
Airwaves? Anyway. There’s a second sizeable tree standing guard at the north end of the skating rink (behind the photographer in this picture) and they will be flipping the switch on that baby the next day, Saturday, December 3. From Providence Monthly,
The festivities continue on Saturday (December 3) with the Providence Gay Men’s Chorus will kick things off at 5pm, immediately followed by the lighting of the rink Christmas tree. Then there will be a skating demonstration from Olympic medalist Michelle Kwan. Following the performance, the rink will open up to public skate and $1 of all skate admissions will be donated to the Tomorrow Fund.
There is an unidentified photo at the city’s Art, Culture, & Tourism webpage. It’s either the Providence City Workers Chorus or the Providence Gay Men’s Chorus . . . I’m just not sure.
