‘Flux’ Ceramics Exhibition At Woods-Gerry

Organic shapes abound in the ceramics on view at the Woods-Gerry Gallery: pods, husks, fungi, twigs, antlers, urchins, and the suggestive melty, drippy blobs seen here. Only a few members of the RISD Ceramics Department seem interested in geometric shapes. But there is a lot to like here.

This illuminated installation by Ziheng Zhu (MFA Ceramics 2017) is a grabber, but don’t miss the two pieces tucked behind; they look like polished, faceted meteorites . . . dense and extraterrestrial. And I loved the fanciful, black and gold tea set seen below, the work of Zoe Gross (MFA Ceramics 2018). The big piece at the entrance is ‘Crisis’ by BFA candidates Iggy Choi  and Nicholas Oh.

Next up is Architecture. (Facebook RISD Exhibitions)

Gallery hours: Monday – Saturday, 10am to 5pm. Sunday, 2pm to 5pm.

Free admission, Flux runs through January 29, Woods-Gerry Gallery, 62 Prospect Street, (directions)
