(5.4) A ribbon-cutting and a fountain on-turning! After 14 years the West Broadway Neighborhood Association will hold a simple ribbon cutting and ceremonial turning-on of the fountain to celebrate Luongo Square’s new public space. We wrote about this a year ago commending the quality of the workmanship, the building materials, and the landscaping. Make sure the people involved know you appreciate the attention to details.
Mayor Jorge Elorza will be in attendance with key project personnel from RI Department of Transportation and Providence Department of Public Works, as well as steady project supporters Senator Paul Jabour, Representative John Lombardi and Councilman Bryan Principe*. We look forward to acknowledging the many who made this project happen including our neighbor-volunteers in the Luongo Square Working Group and our city and state collaborators.
After a brief speaking program, we will turn on the Decatur Fountain for its first season and enjoy refreshments in this new neighborhood gathering place. All are welcome.
*Feel free to ask Councilman Principe why he attempted to aid Council President Luis Aponte in derailing the Jackson Recall vote. (Go to “Foiling a Sleazy Political Stunt” ProJo 4.4.17) Make these people uncomfortable. They must be reminded that you are paying attention to more than the ribbon-cutting ceremonies.
Save the date: Coming up on May 7th is a Walk West Fountain Jane’s Walk.
