Steel Yard ‘Fire Camp’

(6.24) The Steel Yard’s 5th Annual Fire Camp — Festival of the Fire Arts — will be held this Saturday, with welding, plasma cutting through steel, wheel throwing (how pottery is made), blacksmithing, jewelry making, iron pouring, and guided studio tours.

But that’s not all- guests get to  take a little bit of the Yard home by purchasing customizable Iron Relief Tiles, Steel Plates or Raku Pots. Sand Molds allow guests to carve out their own designs, watch as molten iron is poured into the molds and then get go take home the decorative cast iron relief. Designing the Steel Plate is similar — guests draw their design and then watch as the art is brought to life with plasma cutting & welding. . .  guests can purchase and paint with lustrous glazes their own raku fired pots.

Fire Camp will include an Industrial Yard Sale with beverages and food provided by Revival Brewing Co., Picnic, and other local vendors. Music all day from DJ Unkle Thirsty with a special guest performance from the Extraordinary Rendition Band.

Free, 3pm to 8pm, Saturday, June 24, Steel Yard, 27 Sims Avenue, 401.273.7101, (directions)
