Federal Hill Festival

(6.25) Atwells Avenue will be closed to traffic all weekend for the Federal Hill Summer Festival. Dozens of food and retail vendors, games, and amusement rides will line Atwells Avenue.

The festival begins on Friday June 23 through Sunday June 25 from 10am -10pm each day. The entertainment lineup will have three entertainment stages daily offering various performances. On Sunday June 25th parishioners from the Catholic diocese will honor Saint Joseph with a procession at 12pm after an Italian Mass at 11am at Holy Ghost Church. Atwells Avenue for the entire festival will be closed from Dean to Sutton Streets.

According to the ‘Calendar of Saints’ in my go-to guide, “Saints Preserve Us!” by Sean Kelly, on June 23rd we celebrate St. Joseph Cafasso, the patron saint of prisoners. I personally don’t like my saints to have last names — too modern. But I see no listing for a patron saint of fried dough or stuck zippers, so let’s go with Mr. Cafasso.

For the schedule of musical artists performing on the three stages go to the website.
