‘Raging Bull’ MotB

(8.31) The last* movie of the summer and it’s a doozy: Martin Scorsese’s ‘Raging Bull.’ (Facebook.)

An emotionally self-destructive boxer’s journey through life, as the violence and temper that leads him to the top in the ring destroys his life outside it.

Personally I hate boxing. And I hate movies with slow-motion. And my memory of this movie is that there are crying babies in almost every scene. So . . . not a fan.

Having said that, many people regard this as one of the best movies ever made. (NYT review 11.14.80)

Rated R due to violence, gore, and the word ‘fuck’ is used more than 30 times.

Running time: 2 hours, 9 minutes.

*There seems to be a rain date showing of ‘The Godfather’ on September 14.

Thank you Movies on the Block. That was a season of good and varied selection of movies.

Free, 7:20pm, Thursday, August 31, Grant’s Block, 260 Westminster Street, (directions)
