‘Doors Open RI Festival’

(9.23) I’m very excited about this event and I think people will want to save the date. This free, self-guided tour of the city provides access to over twenty one-of-a-kind locations across Providence. The Doors Open Rhode Island Festival takes place Saturday, September 23, from 10am to 6pm — times for individual sites vary — and it’s free.

Doors Open Rhode Island is committed to minimizing the impact of our Festival on the environment, and encourage you to travel green. There are many ways to explore festival sites: walk, ride your bike or take the RIPTA bus for free! RIPTA is providing complimentary transportation between participating venues. Show your Doors Open RI/RIPTA button, available for pickup on September 23 at all festival sites, to any RIPTA driver to board the bus (and then take it home as your souvenir!)

There are historic buildings like Barnaby Castle, the Ladd Observatory, the Annmary Brown Memorial, the Benefit Street Armory, and (seen here) Atlantic Mills, as well as contemporary sites like Box Office and the design firm Nail Communications. And the RISD Nature Lab! And for Crimetown fans — Hudson Furs!

No tickets or reservations needed. Event guides will be available at the sites and taking pictures is encouraged.
