(10.28) Barnaby’s Castle on Broadway will be hosting a party with food and booze and prizes for costumes. The event is a fundraiser aimed at fixing the elaborate fenestration of this glorious pile. (Facebook event page.)
Rob Smith at Motif RI provides some background,
Barnaby Castle has graced the West Side since its construction in 1875. It was built in a Victorian style that was eccentric even for its time, with a tower, wondrous stained glass windows and a carriage house in the rear. It was commissioned by Jerthomul Barnaby, the proprietor of a very successful department store in downtown Providence. A Democratic party bigwig, he died in 1889. His wife, however, lived for another two years before being murdered by poisoned whiskey sent via US Mail.
(Candygram for Mongo?) General admission tickets get you to the ground floor, open bar, and treats from local eateries like Julian’s and Laughing Gorilla Catering. Miss Wensday sings and a DJ spins.
VIP tickets get you to the upper floors and the top of the turret! With food by Bites by Bre, Julian’s, XO Café, Ocean State Oyster, and more. Dress up or do a costume.
Barnaby’s Castle has been on the Providence Preservation Society’s Most Endangered Properties List as recently as 2012 but it’s coming back from the brink. Proceeds from this event go towards the restoration and preservation of the 118 windows. (Tickets.)
Ages 21+ only, 7pm, Saturday, October 28, Barnaby’s Castle, 299 Broadway, (directions)
