Two Free Things To Do On Black Friday

(11.24) ONE: Take a hike. Admission will be free at the Roger Williams Park Zoo.

The zoo will offer free admission on Friday, November 24. We invite you to spread holiday cheer by bringing non-perishable food items to benefit Rhode Island Community Food Bank.

Get outside, enjoy the fresh air, and take time with family and friends to experience everything the Zoo has to offer! Many of the animals enjoy the cooler temperatures, including the red pandas, snow leopards, red wolves and more. And don’t forget to visit our nature play and exploration area, Hasbro’s Our Big Backyard!

The most needed non-perishable foods at the food bank include: peanut butter, tuna, canned and dried beans, tomato sauce, granola bars, and more.

Zoo walk, 10am to 4pm, Friday, November 24

TWO: Watch a movie. The Providence Athenaeum will be showing the 1963 Disney animated feature, “The Sword in the Stone,”  based on the book by T.H. White.

Arthur (aka Wart) is a young boy who aspires to be a knight’s squire. On a hunting trip he falls in on Merlin, a powerful but amnesiac wizard who has plans for Wart beyond mere squiredom. He starts by trying to give Wart an education (whatever that is), believing that once one has an education, one can go anywhere.

Yes, his name is Wart. Nobody knows why. The movie runs 79 minutes. Fun fact: Sir Pellinore is voiced by Alan Napier, best known as Alfred the Butler in tv’s Batman. The movie is free and open to the public; all ages welcome. No registration required.

Athenaeum movie, 2pm to 3:30pm, Friday, November 24

(Attention Scrabblers: AOUDAD is a useful vowel dump to know.)
