‘Building Musical Instruments’ Concert At Granoff

(12.16) I have no idea what to expect with this, but it’s music (probably) and it’s free. The public is invited to attend the end-of-term concert for “Building Musical Instruments,” a one credit course offered through the Music Department at Brown University.

In “Building Musical Instruments,” the students study and create expressive musical sound by building acoustic, analog, and digital instruments. Using sonic goals as inspiration for design features, they build handheld acoustic instruments, contact microphones, basic synthesizers, and digital controllers, and they consider the ways in which these distinct objects can work together to form a musical performance system.

From the course description:

Topics include: musical listening and design, resonance of different materials, soldering, breadboarding, reading a basic schematic diagram, creating an enclosure, and expressive interaction with instruments. No prerequisites.

Free and open to the public, 8pm to 10pm, Saturday, December 16, Studio 1, Granoff Center, 154 Angell Street, (directions)
