Spelling Bee At AS220

(1.26) This has become the most anticipated social event of the winter season. And yes, spelling can be a spectator sport . . . given enough beer. This Friday, wordsmith, library fan, and all-round bon vivant, Matthew Lawrence, will be hosting Providence Community Library’s all-ages spelling bee.

It’s a really fun night benefitting a really good cause, and it’s also one of the rare times you get to see me on stage these days. The Bee starts at 8 although you should get there early if you want to spell — space is limited.

(Mr. Lawrence publishes the Law And Order Party in which he finds interesting things to do in the upcoming week; and while there is some overlap with what we do here at The Dose, he covers the entire state! This is your go-to for live theater recommendations. I really don’t know how he does it. I’m pretty sure my schedule includes more “executive time.”)

So put your spelling prowess to the test, or come and cheer on your friends. Doors open at 7:30pm for spellers who want to register, 7:45pm for everyone else. It costs $10 to spell. The event is limited to 30 spellers — first come first served. Food and drink available at the restaurant/bar.

$10 at door, 7pm to 10pm, Friday, January 26, AS220, 115 Empire Street, (directions)
