Ceramics & Printmaking At Woods-Gerry

The RISD Senior Shows are cycling through at the Woods-Gerry Gallery, as they do every spring. Individual shows are only up for four days so don’t delay. Up now is Ceramics & Printmaking and it’s a good one. Seen here is one section of an intaglio and silkscreen montage, “Microcosm” by Nita Miller (BFA Printmaking ’18). From a distance (below) it resembles a display of Delftware or blue willow china. But upon closer inspection certain Viking motifs emerge like dragons and the Midgard serpent perhaps. But then . . . is that a Spartan soldier? An ice cream cone? Has she hidden “Nita” à la Hershfield and his “Nina”? The execution is stunning. And what could better represent this exhibition than printmaking that evokes the look of ceramics. The final day is Tuesday, April 24. Then it’s on to the sculpture show.

(And don’t miss the Sol Koffler Graduate Gallery show, Furniture Design, up now through May 13, downtown on Weybosset Street.)
