(6.16) Rhode Island Pride has events planned all week culminating in “Louder & Prouder,” the PrideFest Main Stage on South Water Street from noon to 7pm. This will be followed by the famous Illuminated Night Parade downtown starting at 8:15pm.
Live music and DJs provide music during the day, and fans of RuPaul’s Drag Race will want to head over at 4pm for a special drag block. (Laila McQueen will host a one hour Meet and Greet starting at 5:30pm. Tickets available at the festival for $10 by cash or card.)

The Illuminated Night Parade kicks off from the City Hall steps, weaving its way around the streets downtown. This parade is wildly entertaining! The garish, illuminated floats feature flamboyantly garbed funmakers, all dancing to their own music. I know the party vibe proved irresistible to this ordinary muggle — and at some point you will hear “It’s Raining Men,” I promise. Just go ahead and wiggle and jump around and wave, because no one will be looking at you.
Prime viewing areas are located along the Parade route on Washington Street between Union and Empire Streets, as well as on Empire Street between Washington and Weybosset, and near the Reviewing Stand at the Providence Performing Arts Center.
