Federal Hill Festival

(6.24) This is either a heads-up or a travel advisory. The annual Federal Hill Summer Festival runs Friday through Sunday with dozens of food and retail vendors, games and amusement rides, all lining Atwells Avenue. For a complete entertainment schedule go to Facebook event page. The food at this event is insane . . . and so is the traffic. Park at a distance and take a good walk; you will need it.

The festival runs from 5pm – midnight on Friday, 11am -10pm on Saturday and Sunday. The entertainment lineup features three entertainment stages offering various performances. On Sunday June 25th parishioners from the Catholic diocese will honor Saint Joseph with a procession at 12pm after an Italian Mass at 11am at Holy Ghost Church. Atwells Avenue for the entire festival will be closed from Dean to Sutton Streets.

Seen here is LaPigna, or “The Pine Cone,” a traditional Italian symbol of abundance and quality which has become the symbol of Federal Hill. Unfortunately, another Federal Hill icon, the Depasquale Plaza fountain, was damaged this winter and is only partially operational. (ProJo 6.6.18)
