RI International Film Festival Starts

(8.12) Flickers presents the 22nd annual Rhode Island International Film Festival — 295 films in 6 days. Screenings will be held in venues around the state, including PPAC, Metcalf Auditorium at RISD, the Woodman Center at Moses Brown, the AS220 Black Box, and the Vets, here in town.

Ranked as one of the top 10 Festivals in the United States, RIIFF is also a qualifying festival for the
Live Action, Documentary and Animation Short Film Academy Awards through its affiliation with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences. It is also a BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) and Canadian Screen Awards (Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television)-qualifying Festival. There are only 10 film festivals worldwide that share this distinction.
Go here for a pdf of the program schedule. Lots of animated, live, and documentary shorts packages. (‘Not for Kids — Animated Shorts’ on Wednesday afternoon caught my attention.)
RIIFF runs through August 12. Admission $10 to all screenings ($15 for opening night gala).
(Seen here is ‘Assembly: Theater of Dionysius Eleuthereus’ by Paul Ramirez Jonas, Bell Gallery, 2014.)
Opening night, 7pm to 11:30pm, Tuesday, August 7, PPAC, 220 Weybosset Street, (directions)
