San Souci Drive Improvement Meeting

(10.4) Head over to Recycle-a-Bike and learn about planned improvements along San Souci Drive. The meeting will be hosted by the Providence Department of Planning and Development and the Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council (WRWC). Facebook event.

Come learn about improvements along San Souci Drive behind Olneyville Square that will: create a welcoming gateway between the Woonasquatucket Greenway and Olneyville Square; beautify and improve public access to the River; make it safer for people to walk and ride bicycles in the area; and reduce stormwater runoff into the River.

Speaking of the WRWC, the Providence Journal ran a great piece by Jim Hummel about Alicia Lehrer, WRWC executive director, and Jane Sherman, the woman who got the ball rolling back in the 90s. Riverside Park, fish ladders, bike paths? They made that happen.

Seen here is the view down the Woony from San Souci Drive. Organizers hope this short roadway can create a more welcoming gateway between the Woonasquatucket Greenway and Olneyville Square. The San Souci stretch can be seen in this WRWC map above the “ville” in Olneyville Square.

6pm to 7:30pm, Thursday, October 4, Recycle-a-Bike, 1911 Westminster Street, (directions)
