Book Drive For Kids At Wild Colonial

(1.10) “Where’s Papa going with that ax?” Style maven E.B. White sure knew how to grab your attention. (You thought it was Poe?) Here’s the impact a great book can have on a young, impressionable, mind: Since my first reading of Charlotte’s Web, I have never knowingly killed a spider. I still keep a bug catcher in a corner of my bedroom.

Now the Rhode Island Progressive Democrats and Our Revolution RI invite you to share a favorite book or two when they hold their first annual book drive this Thursday at the Wild Colonial Tavern. Books for all ages are welcome — elementary through high school. (Facebook event page.)

We‘re asking that you donate the book that had the most positive effect on you as a child. The books will be donated to an elementary school, a middle school and a high school within the state so there is no age specification.

Light food will be served and the event is free. Representative Marcia Ranglin-Vassell has been invited to share her goals for the 2019 session.

(Need someone else to cheer for in the NFL playoffs? Indianapolis Colts quarterback, Andrew Luck, is so into reading he has a podcast where he interviews his favorite authors. See this CBS News report where he is seen reading to kids who have no idea who he even is. I love this guy. Go Colts!)

6:30pm to 9:30pm, Thursday, January 10, Wild Colonial Tavern, 250 South Water Street, (directions)
